Reader Question: My boyfriend dresses like my father—oversize button-downs, light-colored jeans that are too short and too baggy. How do I impose my impeccable sense of style on him without insulting him?
Vixely Guy Answer: Start by not imposing your will—that’s a man’s job. I assure you: He wants you to find him attractive, and if that means wearing a dark pair of Levi’s 510 Skinny Jeans, he’ll do it, no matter how much shit his friends give him. Here’s what you do: Don’t pick on his clothes. Don’t even suggest that he’d look better in other clothes. That’s nagging. Men hate that.
Instead, find out his size, adjust accordingly, and buy him a new shirt, a pair of jeans, whatever. Present it as a gift. “Baby, I saw this shirt today and thought you’d look amazing in it. Try it on.” Once the item is on his body, you’re halfway there. Compliment him (unless, of course, it’s not right) and tell him he could totally rock clothes like that. At first he might feel uncomfortable, but the more positive reinforcement you give him, the more he’ll embrace that style. Eventually he’ll realize it’s a total upgrade, and you’ll be fending off other women with that old braided belt of his.
