Following Vixely’s penchant for finding the coolest young women in music, you need to check out Wild Belle literally right now, and their just-released video, “Backslider.” The brother and sister duo stars Elliot Bergman, 31, who plays saxophone and keyboard, and Natalie (Belle) Bergman, 23, on vocals.
Wild Belle’s sound is “soul from the ’60s” and “early Rock Steady” according to Natalie in yesterday’s T Magazine interview, with inspiration from Bob Marley and the Wailers, James Brown and Sam Cooke’s doo wop. Their songs feature Kalimba loops mixed with old-school reggae rhythm behind Natalie’s sultry vocals and Elliot’s jazzy interludes. (Elliot is also part of Afrobeat band Nomo.)
The pair is just finishing up their tour with Tennis (a favorite on Vixely’s playlists) and is about to hit the road again with Passion Pit (for real). They have also been a mainstay at the hottest fashion parties, such as those by Mulberry and Maje, at the behest of Vixely Girl Crush Alexa Chung.
Elliot and Natalie aren’t the only Bergmans with an amazing artistic touch. In fact, sister (and dear Vixely friend!) Elise runs her own super chic and highly acclaimed fashion line, Elise Bergman, based in Chicago, where the Bergmans grew up. Even little brother Bennet Bergman helped film Wild Belle’s new video, “Backslider,” using their mother’s slides from the ’70s and ’80s. The Bergmans are definitely keeping the creativity all in the fam!
