Is there anything hotter than girls who DJ? Not really! Meet Sabrina Burda and Natalie Dodge of SBND, two incredibly awesome ladies who are DJing some of the hottest locales in NYC right now. This past Friday, they performed at the Canal Room to a packed crowd of techno enthusiasts, and this Wednesday they’ll be DJing Ted Baker London‘s SoHo, New York store. As huge fans of this musical pair, we chatted with Sabrina to find out how she got into DJing and to learn more about what she loves to play and her ultimate dream venue.
Vixely (V): How long have you been DJing? How did you start?
Sabrina Burda (SB): I started DJing by playing euro dance music on my computer when I was in high school around the age of 16 and started the euro dance parties at boarding school. I got my first DJ set sophomore year in college in 2008 and have been DJing ever since. Natalie and I joined together as DJs last year and love working together as a duo.
V: What artists do you typically like to mix? What are you most excited to play that’s your set list right now?
SB: It depends. My taste changes and it also always depends on where the event is, what the venue is and for whom we are performing. Generally, I like to play progressive and electronic house music and lately have been into indie, minimal house, deep house and funky soul. We also play remixes of top hits like Rihanna etc. Right now, there are some songs I would love to play from Seth Troxler, Soul Clap, and Maceo Plex to name a few, but I know that the crowd we are playing for may not be as into it because they generally like like to hear songs they already know or can sing along to like Avicii, Martin Solveig, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso, Skrillex, Nicky Romero, Calvin Harris and the more known producers.
V: What would be your dream venue or event to DJ?
SB: My dream venue is tough—there are so many amazing ones! I know it will always just be a dream but being qualified enough to play at a festival like Sensation White would be unreal. Otherwise we love to play private parties, it’s the most fun. Clubs with an outside area, such as XS in Las Vegas, would also be really cool.
Obviously, Vixely is booking SBND for our next event!
