Vix Six Rooftop Bars in NYC for the Weekend

Staying in town this weekend? Why not try to forgetta-about-it and hit up one of our Vix Six Picks for the best rooftops in NYC! Day or night we swear you will feel transported from your city surroundings. We have tried and tested each destination and give them the Vixely seal of approval. The weather looks like it will be in the high 80′s, so make sure to use protection (meaning sunblock) and get your urban beach on.

1.The Beach followed by PH-D at The Dream Downtown

Located in the always bumping Meatpacking District, the Dream Downtown literally has it all. From top restaurants (Marble Lane and No. 8), rooftops with stunning city views, pools, and even subterranean nightclub to suit any of your needs. We suggest starting your day off poolside at The Beach in one of the Cote d’Azur styled cabanas complete with Evian mists, towels and bottles of rose. Sounds a bit like St. Tropez? It is. During the evening push up to PH-D and catch one of the best  panoramic views of Manhattan. We dare you not to dance.

Vix Tip: Try the highly refreshing cocktail the Ginger Towers. A lighter version of a Dark and Stormy, contains Grey Goose, Fresh Ginger, Mint and Ginger Beer.

The Dream Downtown, 335 West 16th Street

2. Soho House Roof

Sadly one has to have either know or be a member to head to the roof at the Soho House, yet once you are there you can understand why the exculsivity exists. The heated swimming pool is open year round where we suggest you lie amongst the super comfortable chocolate-and-white-striped terry cloth lounges. The only decision you may find challenging is whether to eat horizontal on a chaise or sit at a table and catch the  view of the West Village and the Hudson River. Tough life.

Vix Tip: Grab a pitcher of Pimm’s and we promise you won’t be drinking alone.

3. La Piscine at Hotel Americano

To sun or not to sun, that is the question. Post splashing about the pool you can either cuddle up in a highly cushy cabana or catch some rays in one of the daybeds. The food is amazing and has a perfectly mediterranean french-latino flair.

Vix Tip: Start the day off with some culture by checking out a few of the art galleries in the area and then put your feet up by the pool!

4. The Gramercy Terrace at GPH

Located on the top of the Gramercy Park Hotel, the terrace has the most amazing rooftop garden which literally feels like some sort of exotic labyrinth. One seems to forget the city around them. Decorated by contemporary artist Julian Schnabel the color palette throughout the hotel is exquistite, not to mention the artwork.

Vix Tip: The Basil Margarita is a must, made with tequila, basil, chartreuse and lime.

5. The Roof Garden at The Surrey Hotel

Who says downtown has to have all the fun?! The roof garden on top of the newly renovated Surrey Hotel is an often overlooked sublimity, making it highly desirable. The well designed deck makes you feel right at home and we bet you’ll find it hard to leave.

Vix Tip: Sip on their signature Muddled Lemonade and make sure not to miss the sunset.

6. The Jimmy at The James Hotel

Located on the 17th floor of the James Hotel, with 14 foot windows and a panoramic view of NYC, one doesn’t even have to step outside to feel as if they on a roof. Summer or winter, day or night, the Jimmy is not to be missed.

Vix Tip: The cocktails are seriously the best in the city. Cool off with a Mint Julep, concocted with bourbon, mint simple syrup muddled fresh mint from the Jimmy’s organic garden and TONS of crushed ice.
