Meet intimate apparel enthusiast, female entrepreneur and Vixely’s latest Girl Crush, Phylise Sands. Her company, Red Daisy™, creates “Sports Lingerie” with special attention to design details, fit and impeccable quality. Sports have always shaped the life of founder Phylise Sands. The concept behind the Red Daisy took shape when Phylise identified a large demand for a sleek, supportive bra that “functions like a sports bra, but does not look like one.” She set out to help women find a superior fit and performance in not only sports bras but coordinated bottoms as well. Her state-of–the-art line of sports bras, work-out bottoms and tops use premium materials and technology. Worn in Vixely’s Yoga Workout Video in our upcoming iPad Magazine, Vixely can attest to Red Daisy’s elegance and ultimate comfort! 

Beyond her role as an entrepreneur, Phylise is a devoted wife, mother and remains an avid sports enthusiast. Hear what inspires her, her vision for her company moving forward and why she loves Madonna.

Vixely (V): What is the name of your company?

Phylise Sands (PS): Red Daisy

V: Where are you from and where do you live now?

PS: Originally New Jersey, Jersey girl! But I currently reside in Manhattan.

V: What made you decide to pursue this path and start your own company?

PS: For many years, my main focus was on raising three young children and caring for my family. As my children became more independent, my life-long passion for physical fitness lead me to realize that there was a huge void in the market for high quality, comfortable and sexy active wear. The kind of athletic clothing that I would like to wear was not out there, so I created Red Daisy to fill that niche in the market.

V: What sort of women do you try to reach with your brand?

PS: Women who appreciate beautiful design and quality. They take care of themselves on the inside and out and want to look and feel gorgeous while they are at the gym or biking in the park.

V: What has been the most fulfilling aspect of being a female entrepreneur or changemaker?

PS: I love inspiring other women in many ways. By creating beautiful athletic bras and compression tights with the right fit and stream line design to increase women’s self esteem, regardless of their age or fitness level. Encouraging all women to get out there and pursue whatever sport they love or to just look great at their favorite gym. Following a healthy path of healthy living and self-care is something I have been focused on for most of my life. When you feel great on the inside, the outside will follow.

V: Who are your inspirations?

PS: I am inspired by other strong women who know what they want. My sister Jaclyn is the most inspiring woman. She is fighting stage four breast cancer along with raising two children. She wakes up everyday and devotes her life to fighting this terrible disease.

V: What do you do for fun? What makes you the most happy?

PS: Dancing, singing, cooking, running and hanging out with my family…Spending time with my children and husband makes me the most happy.

V: What is something you are the most proud of?

PS: I am extremely proud of what a marvelous life I have. I juggle building and developing Red Daisy with a family. I created an athletic wear company with persistence, using the best suppliers and engineers in the industry; I took a vision and made it reality.

V: What are you reading?

PS: Spirit Junkie by Gabrielle Bernstein.

V: What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

PS: My age; I love fooling everybody!

V: If you could invite anyone to a dinner party, dead or alive, who would be sitting at your table?

PS: Oh my gosh, Madonna! If anybody knows her, please bring her to us at Red Daisy, she would look amazing in our product. She is so inspiring. She constantly re-invents herself, is so talented and of course looks amazing.

V: How do you see your company evolving in the future?

PS: I see Red Daisy extending our reach to many women across the country. I will continue to listen to my customers’ wishes and changing needs.

V: If you could give the 18 year-old version of yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?

PS: Protect your skin from the sun, wear skin protection! Relish and enjoy life and you will be happy; if you look at what you do not have you will never be happy! The best advice I believe is to take care yourself or who else will? Go after your dreams and passions; if not now, then when?
